TOWN BOYS were beaten from the spot in the West Riding Trophy final against East Leeds, losing a penalty shoot-out 6-5 at Woodlesford – the game finished 1-1 after 120 minutes of play.

Leeds started brightly and took the lead after 10 minutes when a well-flighted corner was headed home at the far post.

After a spell of Leeds pressure Town Boys eventually got into the game and Damian Murray had a shot blocked.

They equalised just before half-time when Farouk Hussain made a powerful run into the penalty area to slot a low shot past the keeper.

The second half was even with Rizwan Safdar creating chances and Damien Murray working well out wide, and in extra-time both sides had chances, with Leeds putting Boys under intense pressure.

In the penalty lottery, which ended 3-3 after the first set of five, Leeds took the trophy when their keeper saved Boys’ third spot kick in the ‘sudden death’ phase.

Athletico Monkey gained revenge for their recent 7-0 League defeat against Black Bull with a 3-2 success in the Get Smart Insurance KSL Challenge Cup final at Emley.

Bull began strongly and were up after two minutes through Danny Ingham.

Ben Dobson equalised and then put Athletico ahead before Bull skipper Sam Haigh levelled the scores.

Dobson proved the match-winner with a goal just before half-time.

With Waterloo BC already crowned champions of Division I, second spot was claimed by Britannia Sports, without them kicking a ball, as Town Boys were surprisingly beaten 2-1 by Second Division Walpole.
