Former Huddersfield Town manager Neil Warnock is back in a job – with Crystal Palace confirming a stunning return for the colourful character.

Warnock has signed a two-year contract at Selhurst Park.

Palace were looking to appoint before their Barclays Premier League trip to Newcastle on Saturday – and Warnock fits the bill.

He joined QPR from Palace in 2010 after a two-and-a-half-year spell, but the 65-year-old who was boss for two successful seasons at Town in the mid-1990s has not managed since leaving Leeds in 2013.

Palace have been managerless since Tony Pulis left two weeks ago, with Keith Millen in caretaker charge.

Malky Mackay was poised to be appointed before details of offensive texts he sent while at Cardiff were made public.

Defender Brede Hangeland had called for an end to the uncertainty at the club.

“It is important to sort the situation out as soon as possible and move forward,” the 33-year-old said.

“I am sure when a new manager comes in he will be keen to put his stamp on the team and the sooner the better.

“It’s also important to find the right man, we just have to trust them in the process.

“Tony Pulis was massive for Palace last year, he came in and turned things around. It was a big blow to us all to see him go and I was keen to work with him.

“But there’s a lot of good things in the squad, all the players worked so hard last season so a lot of the stuff is in place.”
