Huddersfield Town old boy Liam Coogans has put himself back on the radar by scoring a string of goals for Scottish minnows Fauldhouse United.

The 20-year-old striker made a splash in his homeland by playing for Airdrie at the age of 15.

And Town had high hopes when they brought him South in 2014.

Coogans, who scored four times in 14 starts at 19 substitute appearances for Airdrie, netted five goals for the Under 18s in his first season at Town.

But he struggled to make his mark further up the development system.

After a loan to Queen of the South early last season, he left Town by mutual consent in February.

Coogans ended the campaign at Brechin City, of the Scottish third tier, but failed to win a contract for the current campaign.

Fauldhouse play in the Eastern section of Scotland’s junior set-up.

The term has nothing to do with age, rather to differentiate clubs from those non-league sides affiliated to the Scottish Football Association.

Junior teams have their own FA, and it’s a notoriously competitive set-up.

Fauldhouse, based halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh in West Lothian, are managed by Stephen Findlay, who worked with Coogans at Airdrie.

“Liam’s an extremely talented young player who I know well,” explained his boss.

“Things haven’t really fallen for him but hopefully he can start getting back to his best with us.”

Coogans has already netted five goals, and clubs from further u the ladder are said to be taking notice.
