Former Huddersfield Town midfielder Chris Beech is being linked with the Hartlepool United managerial vacancy.
The 40-year-old, who also played for Pool, is currently assistant to Keith Hill at Rochdale.
Hill says he wouldn’t stand in Beech’s way but asked: "Where’s the plan from the people in charge at Hartlepool?"
The North-East club – bottom of League II – sacked Paul Murray after 45 days and seven games.
They swung the axe in the wake of the 2-1 home FA Cup round-two defeat by Blyth Spartans.
Pool have picked up only three wins from 19 league games ahead of their trip to Burton Albion.
Former Town defender Sam Collins is in caretaker charge.
Murray was the club’s sixth manager since ex-Town boss Mick Wadsworth left in December 2011.
Beech joined Town from Hartlepool for £65,000 in November 1998 and made 80 appearances.
He joined Rochdale during the 2012 close-season.
