Former Huddersfield Town midfielder Duane Holmes has signed for Scunthorpe United.

The American, who was released by Town at the end of last season , has penned a two year deal with the Iron and will wear the no.19 shirt.

He follows in the footsteps of former Town defender Murray Wallace, who joined the club in January following four years in Huddersfield.

Holmes, 21, was born in Ohio but moved to Yorkshire with his mother at the age of four, and was nurtured in the Town Academy from under-9 level upwards.

The midfielder made 26 appearances for the senior side, scoring one goal in last term’s 5-0 drubbing of Charlton Athletic.

He had been training with the Iron since the start of pre-season and impressed boss Graham Alexander to be offered a contract.

Holmes said: “I’m very happy to finally have signed.

“It’s been a good couple of weeks here training and hopefully I can do well when the season starts. It has been really good.

“There is a good group of lads here, a really close, tight-knit group of lads and I’m excited for the season ahead.

“I spoke to the manager when I first came in and he said he wasn’t looking to bring many players in so to be offered a contract is obviously very pleasing.”
