PAUL REID, a member of the last Huddersfield Town squad to win promotion from League I in 1995, is the new manager of Welsh non-league club Afan Lido.

The Port Talbot team won the Welsh Premier League Cup this season but that didn’t stop them parting company with boss Andrew Dyer.

Reid an ex-Afan Lido player, was himself axed as coach of Port Talbot Town, another Welsh Premier League club, last month.

Afan Lido said in a statement: “Paul has already spoken to a number of players and is happy with the way the squad is taking shape and relishing the challenge of management.

“Over the coming weeks he will be finalising his backroom staff together with strengthening the squad.”

West Midlands-born Reid, 44, played for Town from 1994-97 after signing from Bradford. He also turned out for Leicester, Oldham, Bury and Swansea.

He moved into non-league football with Carmarthen Town in 2003.

It’s his first managerial appointment, although he had a short spell in caretaker charge of Port Talbot in 2007.

l Altrincham’s former Wakefield-Emley striker Damien Reeves is being tracked by a string of clubs, including Doncaster, Dagenham, Shrewsbury and Kilmarnock.

The former Leeds trainee, 26, scored 32 goals for the Blue Square North club this season, and is available on a free transfer.

He has also played for Farsley, Alfreton, Histon and Northwich.
