Former Huddersfield Town star Adam Clayton says Middlesbrough still have it all to do if they are to reach Wembley.

The Teessiders take a 2-1 lead into the home second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final against Brentford on Friday.

But midfielder Clayton has warned there is still a long way to go.

“All we can ask for is to go back with the tie in our hands,” he said. “If we don’t lose then we win the game.

“You don’t really know which way to go. Do you defend it or do you go for it?

“But I’m sure we’ll get out on the front foot like we did against Wolves and Norwich and get the next goal.

“It’s only half-time and the play-offs have done very cruel things to teams before so we’ve got to be right on our game against a very good Brentford team.

“It’s going to be a really tough game but hopefully we can get over the line.”

Ipswich and Norwich drew 1-1 in the other first leg, so it’s all to play for at Carrow Road on Saturday.

“If we get through, we don’t really care who we get in the next round because they’re both good sides,” added ex-Leeds United player Clayton, who joined Middlesbrough in August and has made 47 appearances for them in all competitions.

“We’ve just got to get through our tie and then see what’s waiting for us at Wembley if we get there.”

Oxford United have signed midfielder Liam Sercombe on a two-year deal following the expiry of his contract at League II rivals Exeter City.
