FORMER Town star Simon Charlton is running a first coaching course in England at Shelley College.

The Leeds Road product – now 40 and running Global Soccer Network – will run the course at Shelley from Monday, July 30, to Friday, August 3.

“This is the first Global Soccer Network course we have run in England,” said Charlton, who played 124 matches for Town and also topped the century with both Southampton and Bolton Wanderers.

“We have been to Cyprus and Tanzania before and are due to go to New York in August.

“Apart from the fun and the coaching, we are also on the lookout for talent as we recommend players we see fit to professional clubs. We have one player who has just signed as a scholar (apprentice) at Manchester United, another who is a youth team player at Blackpool and an Under 11 Cypriot player who comes to train with Manchester City during school holidays – so we have a good track record of spotting youngsters.”

Charlton – who played over 500 senior matches in an outstanding career which also included spells at Birmingham, Norwich and Oldham Athletic – is one of two A-licensed coaches taking the course, which is open to boys and girls aged five to 14 (it’s £50 for the week).
