Another two goals from former Huddersfield Town striker John McAliskey kept Huddersfield YMCA firmly on the West Riding County Amateur League title trail.

But the Laund Hill side, beaten just twice in the 20 league games so far, are being made to wait to celebrate by Huddersfield rivals Lepton Highlanders.

They won 7-1 at Golcar United on Wednesday with the help of a Ricardo Ianzito hat trick to stay a point clear at the top of the Premier Division.

Second-placed YMCA, 3-0 winners at Littletown, have three games in hand, starting at Ovenden WR on Saturday, and 12 points to play for compared to Lepton’s three.

That means they could claim the crown next Wednesday, when they go to Golcar (Lepton complete their fixtures that night at Lower Hopton).

Former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international McAliskey, now 31, returned to the John Smith’s Stadium to score the winner as YMCA beat Golcar to win the Huddersfield FA Challenge Cup on Monday.
