Ex- Huddersfield Town striker Grant Holt is in line to become Neil Lennon’s first signing as manager of Hibernian.

The 35-year-old was released by Rochdale at the end of last season and has been training with the Scottish club in the hopes of earning a contract.

Lennon took over as manager of the Scottish Cup Champions earlier this month following the departure of Alan Stubbs for Championship outfit Rotherham.

The Hibs boss told BBC Scotland: “He is in for talks. He is a player I like and I have known him for a while.

“He is the type of player I would like to bring to the club. He has great experience and a physical presence that we probably lacked a bit last year.”

Holt made just 14 appearances, three of them starts during his time at Spotland, scoring twice.

The Carlisle-born striker has had mixed fortunes since leaving Norwich City in 2013, but he is fondly remembered at Town for a three month loan spell in 2014 when he scored twice in 15 league appearances.

“He knows his way around a football pitch and he has great enthusiasm still for the game,” added Lennon.

“People will look at his age, but he hasn’t played much football over the last few years, whether that be through injury or manager’s choice.

“So I think, at 35, he has got plenty in him yet. He feels that as well, so with a bit of luck, maybe we can get a deal done, but I don’t know yet.”
