Former Huddersfield Town striker Jimmy Spencer has been ruled out for the whole of the forthcoming season because of a knee injury picked up during Notts County’s first friendly.

The 22-year-old made a big impact at Notts after leaving Town in January, scoring five goals in 13 games for the League I side.

Spencer came through Town’s academy, but managed only one start and one appearance from the bench.

He had a string of loan stints, including spells at Cheltenham, Morecambe, Brentford and Scunthorpe.

Spencer sustained cruciate ligament damage during the game at Arnold Town, and Notts boss Shaun Derry said: “It’s a major blow.”

Notts, who staved off relegation last season, were beaten 3-1 by Mansfield on Saturday.
