Former Manchester United winger Chris Eagles could face Huddersfield Town in the Championship at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

The ex-Burnley player has joined the New Den club on trial with the view of earning a permanent move.

The 28-year-old, who was born in Hemel Hempstead, is a free agent after being released by Bolton at the end of last season and is hoping to resurrect his career in the capital.

Millwall boss Ian Holloway is looking for Eagles to fill the void left by Lee Martin, who has been ruled out until November with a knee injury.

Eagles was tipped by Sir Alex Ferguson to ‘have a great future’ when he came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and he has plenty of experience in the Championship having helped the Clarets to win promotion to the Premier League in 2009.

The Lions have have confirmed that right back Carlos Edwards suffered a serious knee ligament injury against Nottingham Forest at the weekend and will have to undergo surgery to cure the problem and the 35-year-old faces a fight to play again this season.
