HUDDERSFIELD Town could come face to face with old boy Luke Malcher in tomorrow’s friendly at Frickley Athletic (7.30).

The 21-year-old midfielder or striker, who came through Town’s academy and was given a first-year professional’s contract for 2007-08, has just signed for the Evo-Stik (Northern Premier) League top-flight club.

Unable to break into the first team while at the Galpharm, Malcher spent time at the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain before joining Harrogate Town in December 2008.

The Halifax-born former Republic of Ireland Under 17 cap has also played for Farsley Celtic, Guiseley and Ossett Town.

Malcher is one of a string of close-season signings by Billy Heath, the former Hull City player and Bridlington Town boss who is in his second spell at the Frickley helm.

He signed on the same day as experienced centre-back Simon Sturdy, whose previous clubs include Harrogate Town, Eastwood Town, Droylsden and Guiseley.

Meanwhile midfielder Grant Normington and defender Matt Bird have joined from Grimsby, winger Andy Lee from FC Halifax Town and midfielder Patrick McGuire from Ossett Town.

It’s Frickley’s centenary season, and Heath is desperate to bring success to the Tech5 Stadium in South Elmsall.
