Shelley are playing a friendly against Accrington Stanley tomorrow night, when a couple of former Huddersfield Town players could be involved.

It’s a Tuesday 7.30pm kick-off at Storthes Hall Park as Ash Berry’s West Yorkshire Premier League side tackle John Coleman’s League Two outfit, who are fifth and chasing automatic promotion.

Former Town players Matt Crooks and Josh Windass – who have both signed four-year pre-contract deals to join Glasgow Rangers next season – have contributed 19 goals between them as Accrington have mounted their challenge.

Crooks, 22, has eight to his credit and was in the starting line-up when Accrington defeated Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

Windass has been recovering from injury and, while he has scored 11 goals this season, he hasn’t actually featured for the first team since January 2, when they won at Mansfield.

Shelley boss Berry explained: “We haven’t had a match for a couple of weeks and Accrington are keen to give some of their lads a run-out ahead of their League Two home match with Wycombe on Wednesday night.

“The intention was for it to be a mixture of Accrington’s youngsters, but it turns out John wants to bring a good number of senior players as well, just to have a bit of a run, so it should be a really good game.

“It would be great to see a decent crowd up for what should be a really interesting fixture, and it’s another good chance for us to showcase what we are about against another really strong side.”

Accrington also have Town’s Joe Wright in their squad, but he is injured and hasn’t played since February 20.

Shelley are also hosting a Sportsman’s Evening on Thursday with a Huddersfield Town twist.

It’s being held at the Woodman Inn at Thunderbridge, and the featured guests are promotion-winning former Town stars Andy Booth and Tony Carss, who now runs the club’s Under 18 Development side.

The event starts at 7.30pm on Thursday and it’s £10 entry, including pie and peas supper.
