GIVEN stick throughout by the Oxford fans, Town's captain alleged the abuse continued on the pitch.

"Alsop was always calling me a cheat and, even when I was on the stretcher, he said he hoped I would be out for the rest of the season," claimed Sodje.

"The people who were putting me on the stretcher couldn't believe what he said, but that's his problem. He is just a baby for saying that."

Oxford believe Sodje got Julian Alsop sent off in the 1-1 draw at the McAlpine, an offence for which the Oxford striker got a five-match ban.

Sodje was booed when he got off the team bus, jeered throughout the game and insulted again by a group of Oxford fans as he left the ground. He was also criticised in the match programme.

Sodje said: "I knew there had been some comments made before the game and I just told our lads: `I'm going to play well and I'm going to score the winner.'

"That's how it turned out and I had the last laugh. I called Alsop back at the end of the game to shake hands, but I can't repeat what he said to me."

Proud of his third goal of the season, Sodje added: "It was a very big win for us and to see so many fans enjoying it was fantastic.

"We were very psyched up for it and we played well. I said when I first came to the club that we would get automatic promotion and now it looks like we are going to, but we can't celebrate yet."

Town prepared by listening to Rock the Casbah by The Clash, and Sodje said: "We keep trying to hide the tape. I prefer some R & B!"
