A CROWD of around 500 attended the Gerry Murphy testimonial Gala Day at the Welfare Ground yesterday.
A highly-successful mini-soccer tournament run by the club’s Brian Young and Graham Yates was followed by an exhibition match involving a Town XI against the Academy.
The Town XI won 1-0 with a goal by young Luke Williams (from the Academy!) after starting with a line-up of Simon Eastwood, David Mirfin, Joe Skarz, Michael Collins, Tom Clarke, Nathan Clarke, Danny Codman – who scored at Bury the previous day – James Berrett, Danny Broadbent, Shane Killock and Andy Holdsworth.
All those players came through the club’s youth system under the guidance of Murphy.
