AT PRESENT it looks like five teams are fighting for four League I play-off places and hoping to avoid being the odd one out.
Town didn’t do themselves any favours on Tuesday as they were hammered at Southampton – but they are nevertheless fancied to bounce back immediately at Gillingham.
Victor Chandler have installed them as 13/10 favourites to land all three points, Betdaq chalk 21/10 against the hosts and Betfred price the draw at 12/5.
Given the Gills’ excellent record at Priestfield as well as their miserly home defence, the latter, alongside Stan James’ 8/1 for a goalless encounter and Jaxx.com’s 7/2 for it to be level at the end of each half, could attract cash.
However those studying the formbook will note that the hosts haven’t been quite as strong on their own patch of late, winning just once in six, so 888Sport’s 3/1 for Lee Clark’s men to nick it by a one-goal margin possesses plenty of appeal.
As Gillingham have only found the net twice in that half dozen game spell at home, a Town clean sheet (7/5, Partybets) isn’t out of the question and indeed a strong case can be made for 888Sport’s 5/2 posted against the visitors coming out on top without conceding.
Ladbrokes, meanwhile, offer a generous 7/1 for Town to fire the game’s only goal, in a clash rated at 4/5 by Betdaq to produce fewer than three, and Totesport quote odds of 9/2 for Clark’s side to emerge triumphant despite an even first half.
Jordan Rhodes and Lee Novak are 5/1 and 13/2 respectively with bet365 to set Town on their way by bagging the opener.
The ambitious can tackle William Hill’s 9/1 for Town to come from behind to win and at the opposite end of the spectrum, Paddy Power cater for the cautious, making Clark’s men 2/5 to avoid defeat.
