Sean Scannell is backing his Huddersfield Town teammate Nahki Wells to get back on the goal trail soon.

The Bermudian frontman is the club’s nine-goal top scorer going into today’s home Championship clash with Brentford.

But he hasn’t hit the target since the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the John Smith’s Stadium on November 1.

Wideman Scannell, optimistic of beating a thigh problem and facing the Bees, says Wells will be back on the scoresheet before long.

“If we keep creating the chances, Nahki will start to take them,” he said.

“He’s shown time and time again that he is a quality finisher, and all strikers have spells without goals.”

Wells has netted 16 times in all since his Town-record £1.3m move from Bradford City 11 months ago.

The 24-year-old bagged 53 in two and a half season with the Bantams.

Wells’ fellow frontman Martin Paterson is back at the John Smith’s after his loan to Fleetwood was cut short because of injury.

The 27-year-old picked up a hamstring problem during last Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Swindon Town, his third appearance for the League I club.

Jon Stead remains at Bradford, and is set to feature in their FA Cup second-round tie at home to Vanarama Conference side Dartford.

Phil Parkinson’s side are aiming to join Town, the other 23 Championship clubs, and those from the Premier League in the third-round draw, which is live on BBC2 at 7.00pm on Monday.
