ONE of the RCD League’s newest clubs is Moorlands FC, who now share the superb playing facilities at Moorlands Cricket Club on the Huddersfield Road.

Gomersal arrived at the ground on a strangely warm October Sunday morning hoping to improve their position in Division IV of the Under 12s

The visitors went into attack straight from the kick off and goals from Oliver Whitehead, Kelsey Bould and Thomas Lennox should have been enough to give them a comfortable lead, but two breakaway goals from Ben Toomes and Arslan Shahid left the game finely balanced at the interval.

The Moorlands’ defence did well to hold out for much of the game but Gomersal’s relentless attacking finally paid off and, after Lennox grabbed his second, further goals from Eddie Dawson and Jordan Tierney (3) made sure that Gomersal went home with the three points.

l Many of the RCD League’s teams were involved in County Cup games over the weekend.

In the Under 12 Junior Shield, Matthew Wensley (2), Thomas Stewart, Liam Whitaker and Jack McDonagh goals gave League leaders YMCA a comfortable ride into the second round with a 5-0 win over Thornes.

The Under 14s play for the Junior Trophy and Westend eased into the second round with a win over St Joseph’s.

The Halifax side were unable to find a reply as Sharif (4), Eastwood (2) and Kilburn (3) ensured a 9-0 win for Westend.
