Grant Holt hailed Huddersfield Town’s win over Bolton Wanderers as he returned to parent club Wigan Athletic.

And the veteran striker also said thanks to the fans following his three-month stay.

The 33-year-old was denied the chance to add to his 15 games and two goals for Town against Bolton by a knee injury.

“It was a great win over Bolton and it’s a shame I was not able to play,” said Holt, who aims to impress new Wigan boss Malky Mackay.

“But I loved it at the club and thanks to the fans, players and staff for making me so welcome.”

Carlisle-based Holt could be in action against Town when they visit Wigan on January 24.

The Latics host Sheffield Wednesday tonight and go to Bolton in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Town boss Chris Powell said: “Grant did well for us and he was a good character around the club.

“He goes back to Wigan with my best wishes and I’m sure the players, staff and fans would say the same.”

Elsewhere tonight, Derby County host Leeds United, who are two berths and four points behind 18th-placed Town, while Ipswich Town, in second, are at home to Charlton Athletic.

A win for Mick McCarthy’s men would put them a point behind table toppers Bournemouth.
