A LAST-minute strike secured Hepworth United’s first ever Huddersfield District League Division I title.

Home to rivals Newsome, the visitors were ahead 2-1 with only seven minutes to go, but super sub James Earnshaw scored the crucial equaliser from the spot with one minute to go – earning Hepworth the point they needed after twice trailing in the game.

Newsome went ahead after four minutes only for Chris Patterson to level matters on the half hour.

Newsome regained the lead in the second half, but their hopes of maintaining a challenge for the title were dashed in the finally seconds of the contest.
