WHAT a fantastic season for Hepworth United!

The Holme Valley club proved the best of the best by clinching their first ever Huddersfield District League Division I title.

Player-manager Michael Tunnacliffe guided the squad to lift the historic shield with only three defeats in their 22 matches to finish with 53 points.

That left them six clear of rivals Newsome in the final analysis, after a gripping battle between the two all the way through the busy closing stages of the season.

It was a 2-2 draw between the two at Primrose Hill, when Hepworth slotted a last-minute penalty which eventually clinched the title.

But it was a genuine honours-winning performance over the whole season from skipper Chris Kaye’s side, as they scored more goals than anyone else in the top flight (68) and conceded the fewest (25).
