READERS of this column may recall that, with the aid of the Town Supporters Association, the club sanctioned a bucket collection last month in aid of Leukaemia Research.

At the time, Commercial director Sean Jarvis explained: “We are happy to raise awareness of Leukaemia Research in the light of Carl’s tragic circumstances.

“There has been a groundswell of support and empathy for his recent plight and we will do anything possible to help fight this horrible disease.”

This was, of course, a reference to the Stockport County player, Carl Baker, and signalled a show of unity between rival fans.

Town supporters are to be congratulated on their generosity in raising £2,222 and the photograph shows two of our bucket collectors, James Vasey and Daryl Hopkins, presenting a cheque to local representatives of Leukaemia Research, Dot Moon and Lorraine Cartwright.

Town fans will need no reminder that this weekend’s match against Oldham is switched to Sunday. This is an opportunity for a meeting of our North West group, to be held at North Chadderton Social & Bowling Club, Broadway, Chadderton, Oldham, OL9 0EL (Tel: 0161 624 3758). There is a large car park and it’s about a 10-minute walk from the ground.

The meeting will start at noon and confirmed guests are Nigel Clibbens and Sean Jarvis, so we hope to see as many North-West fans as possible – but all are welcome!

There will be an HTSA coach as usual, departure time from the Galpharm being noon with prices for members set at £10 and £8 (concessions). Please ring either 07926 165863 or 07798 727782 to book one of the last few places available.

Finally, it would be helpful to know how many Town fans are interested in travelling with us to Swindon on November 24. Ring the above.
