Huddersfield Town's Academy side are into the next stage of the FA Youth Cup after winning their first round clash with Scunthorpe United 2-1 at Glanford Park.

First half goals from striker Max Leonard and skipper Matty Crooks proved decisive – with the Iron managing a consolation goal in the final minute courtesy of front-runner Jamie Wootton.

The Town team went into the clash with a line-up that saw Warrick Charlton leading the attack with Under 18 top scorer Leonard lying just a little deeper in front of a midfield of four.

After a slow start Town eventually took control in the first half with Leonard giving them the lead on 37 minutes when he made the most of an error by the home keeper.

Just four minutes later captain Crooks bagged the second after some excellent work down the right flank by winger James Burke to put the visitors in the ascendancy and Scunthorpe’s replay was too late to give them a chance of getting back into the contest.

The victory means that Town will be at home in the second round when they will take on either North Ferriby United or Crewe Alexandra, who play their first round game next Tuesday night.
