Huddersfield Town have agreed a new contract with teenage Danish midfielder Philip Billing.

Like fellow academy player Jake Charles, the 17-year-old has penned a deal through to 2017, with the club having the option of a further year.

Standing 6ft 4in tall, Billing was signed from Danish top-flight club Esbjerg during the second half of last season following a 10-day trial.

He has impressed for the Under 18s, netting one goal in five starts, and made his debut for the Under 21s as a substitute in the home victory over Leeds in August.

Town’s academy manager Mark Lillis said: “It is important for the club to secure the future of its promising young players and we’re delighted Philip has signed this contract.

“He is showing great promise and has successfully made the transition from his home in Denmark to life in England and deserves credit for that.

“Philip has a lot of ability, but like all young players, he needs to continue to develop and will continue to work hard with the club’s coaching staff.

“This news caps off a good month for the academy with some strong performances and development across all age groups, Jake Charles’ contract extension and a first-team debut for academy graduate Duane Holmes.

“Our academy is progressing and building all the time. Long may that continue.”
