Huddersfield Town have sold out their 2,200 ticket allocation for Saturday’s Championship game at Bolton Wanderers.

And while the Macron Stadium can accommodate twice that number of away fans, the cost of opening the necessary section means the cash-strapped Lancashire club have opted against making more tickets available.

Demand from Town supporters has risen in the wake of the 3-1 Boxing Day home win over Preston North End and Monday’s 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers.

But it’s uncertain whether the John Smith’s Stadium club, whose supporters will watch from the Macron’s South Stand lower tier, would sell enough extra tickets to cover the staff, stewards and police required to operate the upper tier as well.

Bolton are in a perilous financial position, and are unwilling to incur any additional costs as they work to avoid a winding-up order over unpaid taxes.

That means the 2,200 away fans limit will remain, with the game all-ticket and no pay on the day facility available.

Town took 1,962 supporters to last season’s game at Bolton, who won 1-0 in front of an official attendance of 15,924.

In 2013-14, when Town won 1-0, the figures were 1,365 and 15,452.

Bolton’s average attendance this season is 15,427, with a high of 18,178 for the visit of Leeds United, who had 4,419 fans at the game.
