LEE CLARK reckons Town’s eight-goal stalemate with Brentford provided “a little bit of a wake-up call”.

As a build-up to the two-legged League I play-off semi final against Bournemouth (away on Saturday, at home on Wednesday week) the boss admitted it wasn’t ideal.

But he pledged: “We’ll dissect it and work with the players to make sure we don’t do that next Saturday and onwards from there.

Clark continued: “We looked a bit off it, especially without the ball, and when you score four at home you expect to win the game.

“But I’m not going to criticise the players, because that’s 25 unbeaten in the league.

“We’ve not been defeated since December 28, and we will get sorted and get back to where we were in terms of being a solid unit.

Clark was pleased with the contribution of Lee Novak, who replaced Jordan Rhodes in the 49th minute and scored his fourth goal of the season in the 52nd.

“Lee did what I wanted, and it’s not just about his goal,” he explained.

“Strikers set the tempo. When the rest of the players see them chasing, closing down and tackling it sets the tone and lifts the crowd. Lee does that, and he’s given me food for thought.”

With Town sure to sell out their 1,333 ticket allocation for Saturday’s Dean Court visit, Clark again praised the supporters.

“They were terrific and really stuck with us,” he said.

“I really like the way they got behind the lads and the aim is to give them three wins to celebrate.”

Brentford boss Nicky Forster said: “I thought we were fantastic and carved them open at will at times – and they’re a good team and we shouldn’t forget that.

“It was a little bit too open at the other end for us but I thought we were well worthy of the point and possibly the three if I’m honest.

“I’d rather 4-4 than 0-0 as it shows the strikers are scoring.”
