TOWN manager Lee Clark conducted a half hour post-mortem into his side’s 2-1 defeat at Walsall and then pledged they would bounce back at Colchester.

“I’m down at the moment, but I will lift myself and the players for Saturday,” said Clark.

Town, who are in sixth place in the table after the defeat, head for Colchester United looking to get back to winning ways after old boy Dwayne Mattis dealt them an 88th minute blow.

It looked good for Town as Theo Robinson hit his eighth goal of the season to put them ahead on 47 minutes, but their hopes faded when they were pegged back by Darren Byfield’s 64th minute penalty.

Clark said: “The ball should not have come in from the left, but instead of doing the simple thing we made a hash of it and failed to make the clearance.

“If we had not let them get the ball in then we wouldn’t have been put in the position of conceding the penalty and might well have gone on to win.

“It was a basic mistake, but we have to move on and we have the confidence and the belief to take this group of players to where we need to be.”
