LEE CLARK believes Lee Novak is a real future star.

The 20-year-old Gateshead striker became his fellow Geordie’s fourth signing of the transfer window an hour before yesterday’s deadline, penning a three-and-a-half year contract for an undisclosed six-figure fee.

Novak, a former Gretna youth player, braved the snow to travel South and complete the paperwork on a deal which takes him straight back to the Blue Square Premier club for the remainder of this season.

He joined Gateshead from UniBond League outfit Newcastle Blue Star in September, and has scored 17 times since, taking his season’s haul to 24.

Last term, he netted 22 times for Blue Star, earning a summer trial at Town’s League I rivals Stockport.

Town beat off competition from two other League I sides, Scunthorpe and Peterborough, to land Novak and manager Clark said: “He’s certainly one for the future and I’m hoping he’ll continue his good form with Gateshead before linking up with us in pre-season.

“He scores goals, which is a striker’s main job, but he also has a good work ethic, good awareness and brings others into the game.”
