LEE CLARK has given his Town squad a major vote of confidence ahead of tomorrow’s eagerly-awaited Galpharm showdown with League I promotion rivals Swindon (3.00).
While Danny Wilson yesterday brought in Portsmouth winger Matt Richie, and could hand him a quick debut, home boss Clark says he has no plans to enter the loan market.
“I’m happy with my squad as it is, and I’m not looking at any movement either in or out,” said the Geordie, whose side are unbeaten in six in the league and looking to keep a fourth clean sheet in five outings.
Town, of course, brought in four new faces during the transfer window, and one of them, Australian international left-back Dean Heffernan, right, is available again after a groin niggle kept him out of Tuesday’s goalless draw at Brighton.
Clark also has former Birmingham centre-back Krystian Pearce pushing for a first-team debut after he helped the reserves keep a clean sheet in Wednesday’s 2-0 win at Leeds.
“We have competition throughout the team, and that’s what I wanted to create,” added Clark, whose side are seventh and aiming to cut the gap on fifth-placed Swindon to two points.
“We’ve got a squad full of talented players who give me 100% day in, day out and desperately want to be successful, and I have total faith in them.”
Town will be seeking revenge for November’s 2-1 defeat at Swindon, who are unbeaten in nine league games and have one of the division’s in-form strikers in 19-goal Billy Paynter.
