Mark Robins is plotting a gameplan to beat Blackpool, and says if his players follow it but fail to take three points, he’ll take the criticism.

Frustrated by the 4-2 home defeat by Blackburn, the boss insists he will persevere with the passing approach which has brought 12 Championship wins so far.

Four of them have come on the road, and Robins is desperate for Town to repeat last season’s success at Bloomfield Road, where they won 3-1.

The sides fight out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium in September, after which Blackpool were second in the table. They have slid since then and are 18th with just one win in 19.

Town are two places and six points better off and have their sights on a first win in four, with fans (ticket sales for the away end have topped 1,650) hoping James Vaughan will be fit enough to start.

The 12-goal top scorer made his return from a calf injury against Blackburn, resuming his frontline partnership with club-record signing Nahki Wells. Robins is keen to see the pair flourish alongside each other.

“James is making progress all the time, and we will have a look at him and see whether he is ready to start,” said the manager.

“I thought that on the whole, our performance against Blackburn was okay, but each time we looked like really getting back into it, we shot ourselves in the foot.

“We clearly have to cut out those kind of mistakes, but the way we approach the game won’t change.

“My remit this season was to put down a blueprint to take the club forward. There were always going to be setbacks, but I feel we are going the right way.

“We will stick to our principles, and as long as the players do what I am asking, I will take the responsibility when results don’t go our way.”
