SIMON GRAYSON says the footballs will be out on the first day when Huddersfield Town return for pre-season training.

The players report back to start the build-up to the eagerly-awaited Championship campaign on Thursday – 47 days after winning promotion.

Manager Grayson and his right-hand men Glynn Snodin and Ian Miller have been working closely with fitness specialist Tom Little to formulate the schedule.

“Pre-season is a crucial time because it provides the platform for what is to come,” said Grayson.

“Methods are constantly evolving, but between us, we have plenty of experience to ensure the players are as fit as possible.

“There is hard work ahead, but the days of running the lads into the ground are gone, and the balls will be out straight away.”

Town’s first competitive match is at Preston in the first round of the Capital One Cup on Monday, August 13 and Grayson added: “It’s all about being right for that game.”
