LEE CLARK surveyed Huddersfield Town’s hard-fought  goalless draw at Hartlepool and said:  “We’re getting there.”

Clear-cut chances for either side were few and far  between as a third stalemate in as many League I  games left Town 15th in the early standings.

“Three points from three games isn’t where we  wanted to be,” admitted manager Clark, whose side  have set a new club record of 28 successive league  games unbeaten.

“We’re proving hard to beat, but with the ball, we  could have been better, braver, more decisive and more  assertive.

“At times we didn’t look like we believed we could  beat the man or get the shot in, but defensively, I  thought we were excellent.

“The back four protected the goalkeeper very well  and we dealt very well with everything they threw at  us.

“It was a tough game played in pretty windy  conditions, and we worked hard to keep them out.

“Now we have to combine that with the way we used  the ball at Port Vale and Rochdale and when we do  that, we’ll be under way.

“It’s a developing group, and I’m confident we will  become the team everyone thinks we are going to  be.”

Clark confirmed keeper Alex Smithies has  undergone successful knee surgery which involved  clearing out debris from the joint.

Town’s Carling Cup second-round tie at  Championship side Cardiff City will take place next  Tuesday, August 23.
