LEE CLARK says Huddersfield Town have only themselves to blame after a second successive League I stalemate.

His side are 14th in the embryonic table after being held 2-2 at Rochdale, where Ashley Grimes scored an 89th-minute equaliser.

Clark, who twice saw Town take the lead, was pleased with their attacking, and striker Lee Novak’s contribution in particular.

But he is desperate for them to tighten up ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Hartlepool, who also have two draws from two league games after their 1-1 stalemate with Walsall on Saturday.

“There was an element of luck about the first – a deflection which bounced straight to their player,” said Clark.

But with the second, one of my forwards (Gary Roberts) who has great ability took a liberty in the wrong area and it cost us. It was a shocker.”

Town led through Lee Novak (15 minutes, pictured right) and substitute Danny Ward (69) while French frontman Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro claimed Rochdale’s first leveller.

Clark continued: “Many aspects of the performance were good, and I thought Lee Novak was outstanding.

“If he went up for 50 headers in the game, he probably won 45 of them, and it’s a shame we didn’t gamble on them more often.

“In the system we played (4-3-3) if you have someone winning headers for fun, as a wideman you have the freedom to gamble.

“If he doesn’t win the header, there’s nothing lost because you take a defender in there with you. If he does, you’re through on goal.”
