SKIPPER Peter Clarke has no doubt that lifting the promotion trophy at Wembley is the highlight of his career so far.

The 29-year-old centre-back went as close to scoring as anyone in the 120 minutes of the match proper and then netted Town’s first penalty of the shoot-out.

He led the team up to receive the npower Trophy as their man of the match and then commented: "It was an amazing feeling.

"I was immensely proud to lift that trophy and it’s right at the top of my career achievements.

"To win promotion at Wembley is absolutely fantastic and it’s a feeling I want to hang around for a long, long time to come."

Clarke, of course, left the Old Trafford pitch in tears 12 months ago after the final defeat to Peterborough.

"My feelings now are the complete polar opposite," he smiled.

"I’ve every sympathy for Sheffield United and I went to commiserate with them because it’s a horrible, horrible feeling.

"For us, we need to enjoy this, have a break and re-charge the batteries so that we can hit next season full-on.

"I think we’ve got a good group of players who never know when they are beaten, and that fantastic team spirit can take you a long, long way."

Clarke hopes centre-back partner Sean Morrison will stay at the club.

"He has superb natural attributes and I think he will go and play in the Premiership," he added. "I want him to and wish him every success.

"I would love him to be a Town player next season, but that’s down to the two clubs.

"Everything is set up for us to be a Championship club, we are now in name as well and I think we’ll go from strength to strength."
