DEAN HOYLE says Town have more desire to succeed than he can ever remember and today called on the fans: “Roar us into the Championship!”

Town are set to be backed by more than 30,000 supporters at Old Trafford on Sunday for their biggest match in a decade.

Excitement is building as manager Lee Clark prepares his Town side to tackle Peterborough in the League I play-off final, and chairman Hoyle explained: “Our fans have a massive role to play.

“I can honestly say there is more desire in this Town team than any I can remember and they are desperate to reach the Championship, not just for themselves, for me and for Lee, but for the supporters as well.

“We need everyone going to Old Trafford to make sure they do their bit. Whatever happens, let’s not have any regrets as a team or a support – let’s make sure we’ve given it everything we’ve got.

“The support we had in the semi-final against Bournemouth was exceptional. When we needed a lift, the fans really drove us on – and that’s exactly what we need on Sunday.

“We will outnumber the Peterborough fans by a lot, we will have a sea of blue and white in what will look like a Town sell-out in the Stretford End and we want everyone to roar us on as the lads try to finish the job.”

The club’s ‘Believe!’ banners will appear in the Examiner’s play-off special supplement on Saturday, with Hoyle urging fans to take them to the final.

Words for the club song Smile Awhile will also be printed, so that all 30,000-plus fans can join in an Old Trafford chorus.

“It is one of the biggest games in Town’s recent history and we need all the fans doing all they can to help the team,” added the chairman.

“I firmly believe the fans can be our 12th man, just like they were when energy levels were stretched in the semi-final second leg at the Galpharm, and I firmly believe they can play a massive part in driving the players on.

“It can be a great day out, we have done remarkably well so far and, as supporters, let’s try and help the lads as much as we can to finish the job off. As long as we can all say we couldn’t have done any more, that will be good enough for me.”
