Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle confirmed more signing targets are on the cards as the club look to “really push on” this coming season.
Goalkeeper Joe Murphy, defender Lee Peltier and development striker Harry Bunn have penned deals at the John Smith’s Stadium while Town have taken up the option of adding a year to Danny Ward’s contract.
While other squad members may move on before the season starts against Bournemouth at the John Smith’s on August 9, Hoyle says work will continue to bring in the specific targets who’ve been identified.
“We would like one or two more, of course we would, but it’s a very slow market at the moment with lots of players out of contract, so we will see where we go,” said the chaiirman.
“It is a revolving door because one or two people have been told they can leave if they wish, but there are possibilities for us and we’ll be exploring those as best we can.”
Hoyle was at PPG Canalside to mark the Keep it Up campaign reaching £1m after just five years.
The senior players are back in for fitness testing for a couple of days and will be out on the training ground in earnest on Thursday.
“A few of the players have been in already, James Vaughan and Lee Peltier have been having a laugh and a joke, all the coaching staff are back and everyone is buzzing,” added the club owner.
“We need to push on this season.
“If you had asked me at Christmas if we had got progress then I would have said ‘yes’, but then we faded away to say the least and that can’t be allowed to happen again.
“We are confident in Mark (Robins), which is why he is taking us into the season, and we have made sacrifices on the backroom staff. Now we just need leaders on the pitch and I’m confident we can really push on.”
Hoyle was delighted to see star striker James Vaughan doing work with the club physios ahead of the squad returning for their fitness assessments.
“People keep asking if we are going to be able to have James fit for the whole season and my answer to that is simple – if we do we are going to have a hell of a chance,” added Hoyle.
“With him and Nahki Wells up front we have a cracking chance to go forward.
“The problem has been with James that it’s not just one injury – it’s been one injury, followed by a different one and then followed by a different one.
“He has been in America, though, to help his rehab, he has been working very hard and all the signs are good. On top of that, James is really focused, so let’s hope he is ready to push on.”
