IAN BENNETT says the people behind the scenes are playing a huge role as Town aim to go into the League I play-offs with real momentum.

Lee Clark’s side will try to make it 11 wins in 14 games and 25 unbeaten as they finish their regular-season fixtures at home to Brentford tomorrow.

It will be Bournemouth or MK Dons in the play-off semis for Town, who are sure to finish third, but keeper Bennett wants to take care of the Bees first.

The Londoners haven’t been beaten at the Galpharm since September 2005, when Pawel Abbott, Danny Schofield and Andy Booth edged it 3-2 for the home team.

Brentford won 2-0 the campaign after and drew 0-0 last season, but Bennett is eyeing a fifth successive victory.

“We’re clued up about Brentford,” said the 39-year-old, who was unlucky to be beaten by Ashley Barnes during last week’s 3-2 defeat at Brighton after saving the striker’s initial penalty.

“It’s the same every game we play and that’s down to the hard work put in by those behind the scenes.

“We have all the details on the opposition and what to expect from them and I work especially closely with (goalkeeping coach) John Vaughan.

“He studies the opposing penalty takers, and he told me which way Barnes was likely to put the ball, so the save is really down to him.

“It’s a shame the lad followed up and headed home the rebound, but that’s the way thing go sometimes.

“The main objective was to win the match, and it’s the same against Brentford, because we all want to keep up this run ahead of the play-offs.

“We know there’s a big job still to do, but we’ve shown real character this season, and that will prove important.

“We’ve got a great blend of players in the squad but we’re all together in the pursuit of one objective – promotion to the Championship.”

The win at Withdean provided Town with a sixth double of the season, and that could become seven tomorrow after the 1-0 win at Griffin Park in March.

Skipper Peter Clarke clinched the points with a last-gasp shot, and Bees boss Nicky Forster felt his side deserved more.

“I thought we matched them up and gave them a good go,” said the former Birmingham and Reading striker.

Forster has yet to hear whether he will have the manager’s job next season, with Brentford said to have drawn up a six-man shortlist.

He has selection concerns ahead of the Galpharm game, with keeper Richard Lee (shoulder) defender Leon Legge (groin) and striker Gary Alexander (knee) among the doubts.

Alexander’s fellow frontman Charlie MacDonald (ankle) is back in training after an ankle problem, but probably won’t be risked.

On-loan Town striker Robbie Simpson in ineligible for a game to be refereed by Tony Bates (Staffordshire).
