Huddersfield Town have sealed a deadline-day swoop for Blackpool striker Ishmael Miller on a six-month deal.

The 27-year-old, who was also linked with moves to Millwall and Wigan Athletic today, only joined the Seasiders in the summer but switches across the Pennines to help ease the club's striking crisis and has the option of a further 12 months should he impress in the latter half of the season.

Nahki Wells sustained a foot injury early on in the 2-1 derby defeat to Leeds United at the weekend and that had left James Vaughan as Town's only first-team striking option, but the former West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest forward will add to manager Chris Powell's options.

And the manager believes his new addition, who worked with Town coaches Steve Eyre and Frankie Bunn at Manchester City, fits the bill for his side.

“Since the start of January, I’ve made no secret of the fact that I wanted to supplement our forward options,” he said.

“Although I was comfortable extending our search into the upcoming loan window, I’m happy that we’ve managed to bring Ishmael in ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.

“I talked about the need for the incoming player to have Championship know-how and Ishmael certainly fits that bill.

“He stands at an imposing 6’ 3” tall and is a powerful player; I believe he will complement James Vaughan and Nahki Wells and the likes of Harry Bunn and Sean Scannell.

“Having started his career at Manchester City, he is very well known to both Steve Eyre and Frankie Bunn. They’ve played a key part in his development and early professional career, and they’ve both given him good references as a footballer and as an individual.

“Now the ball is in Ishmael’s court; it’s down to him to do well for the club and see if he can earn a longer-term deal. He’s a talented lad who has commanded millions of pounds in transfer fees during his career. At aged 27 he has a lot to offer.”

Miller joined Blackpool in the summer on a one-year deal and has made 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice in draws at Middlesbrough and Fulham while he was sent off in a recent 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

His last appearance for Lee Clark's side came in a 7-2 thrashing at Watford and he completed 90 minutes during Pool's 4-2 defeat at Huddersfield Town earlier this season.
