HUDDERSFIELD Town have signed midfielder Anton Robinson from Bournemouth

The 25-year-old central midfielder has signed a three-year deal with Town and is expected to be available to feature in Saturday's League 1 opener at home to Bury.

Speculation about the move picked up pace last week after the Bournemouth chairman spoke publicly about Town's interest - and two bids.

Town boss Lee Clark said: "His height, combined with his physical abilities and his ability on the ball, are fantastic attributes and he will fit right in to our style of play given his composure and skill when in possession too. He offers us something different and it's great as a manager to have different options.

"I think his ability was plain for all to see in our four clashes with Bournemouth last season and his acquisition is a real coup for the club.

"We now have what I would consider five senior midfield players in Anton, Damien, Oscar, Tommy and Scott; they will compete for the starting positions."

Town chairman Dean Hoyle added: "Lee identified Anton as an important target and we are delighted that this transfer has come to fruition after a lot of hard work from everyone at the club.

"Bournemouth were understandably reluctant to let Anton leave, but we persisted.

"We could all see what a difference the physical presence of a player such as Kevin Kilbane did for the side last season and Anton has similar attributes. Anton has natural defensive instincts and that is why Lee was so keen to bring him to the club."
