HUDDERSFIELD Town boss Simon Grayson is backing Liam Ridehalgh to maintain his bright progress at Rotherham.

The left-back made his seventh appearance for the Millers in Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Barnet, and has now extended his loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who has played 26 times for Town, has already been out on loan to Chesterfield this season, having spent time at Swindon last time around.

“Liam has progressed beyond playing football for our development squad and his progress is best served by going out and playing games at a high, competitive level under pressure to win,” explained the Town boss.

“He did well at Chesterfield, but he’s stepped up to another level with Rotherham near the top of their division.

“We’ve had Liam watched and he has done well, and he’s still young and learning. We’ve seen many players go out on loan and become better for it. Chris Atkinson (also loaned to Chesterfield this season) is proof of that.

“Liam’s loan extension suits all parties and we’ll assess him this summer.”
