Huddersfield Town pair Ollie Norwood and Martin Paterson will find out on Friday morning whether they will be heading to South America later this month.

Northern Ireland are due to announce their squad for the high-profile international friendlies against World Cup contenders Uruguay and Chile.

Michael O’Neill’s side take on Luis Suarez and his Uruguay teammates, who are among England’s opponents in Group D, in Montevideo on Friday, May 30.

They then head to Valparaiso for the clash with Chile on Wednesday, June 4.

As well as Liverpool ace Suarez, coach Oscar Tabarez’s Uruguay squad includes other English-based players Diego Lugano (West Brom) and Gaston Ramirez (Southampton).

There are also three players from Champions League finalists Atletico Madrid, defenders Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez and midfielder Cristian Rodriguez.

Chile will compete alongside holders Spain in Group B.

Norwood has played against two members of their initial 30-man squad already this season, Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Jara and Wigan attacker Jean Beausejour.

The 15 times-capped former Manchester United man, age 23, made 45 Town appearances this season, scoring six goals.

Striker Paterson played 26 times, also scoring six, before ending the season on loan to Bristol City.

Northern Ireland, who drew goalless with Cyprus in Nicosia in their last game in March, are gearing up for their European Championship qualifying campaign, which starts in Hungary in September.

They will also face Romania, Greece, Finland and the Faroe Islands in Group F.
