HUDDERSFIELD Town chief executive Nigel Clibbens today told fans the club are “trying very hard” to make the right signings without being ripped off.

While Lionel Ainsworth could be heading for League II Shrewsbury after also interesting Hereford, Town’s extensive work to bring in a couple more new faces goes on.

With the final pre-season friendly at Scunthorpe United just 48 hours away, Clibbens (pictured on the left with chairman Dean Hoyle) explained: “We are making some progress on possible incoming signings and trying very hard, but these things take time and we have to be patient.

“We have a far stronger squad than we had last year and we have strengthened already in areas we needed to, so if we can get that little bit extra it will take us to yet another level.

“Having done so well so far, though, with eight new faces, we don’t want to rush things at this stage and end up with the wrong people.

“And everybody knows we are ambitious and trying to get people in, which means they try and hold us to ransom and we have to resist that.”

Finance for the 22-year-old Ainsworth appears to be the key to whether and where he moves.

“Given his track record with Graham Turner, it’s more likely than not he will go to Shrewsbury if a deal on finances can be done,” added Clibbens.

“Personal terms for Lionel would then have to be resolved.”
