Huddersfield Town supporters were generally happy with the fightback victory against Bolton Wanderers – but believe more improvement is needed.

Fans ratings at www.examiner.co.uk were higher than of late – with Jonathan Hogg top terrier on 7.9 following two assists and goalscorer Jacob Butterfield second on 7.8.

Danny, from Outlane said: “Much better from Town, who played much quicker tempo than of late, tackling better and chasing down.

“Hogg had his best game in a Town shirt, Scannell terrific again and Smithies made some good saves.

“Still like to see wells start, but difficult to drop someone. Glad it’s not my problem, but well done Town. More like this please.”

Mansfield Terrier added: “Quality performance against a solid side (and the officials).

“Battled hard and got our just desserts. Well done Town, and Chris Powell.”

Dick from Waterloo believes Town’s management have key work to do in the January transfer window.

“Better, but finishing still an issue,” he said. “We don’t create clear-cut chances and can’t take half chances.

“Need a strong defender and a midfield general in January – but then again so does everyone.

“Hope we can get up the table and not have a dogfight at the end of the season again.”

Alan, from Rastrick felt it was a strong showing “after the Rotherham fiasco” while Graham, of Wooldale, believes Town need to sharpen up on shooting and finishing, although he was critical of the officials throughout Town’s 2-1 win.

Birstall-based Shaun continued: “Probably best thing that could have happened to HTAFC was conceding early as it made us come out and attack!!

“Sitting back is just not an option for us. We must go for it in every game!”

Kev, from Lindley, praised Hogg for ‘getting in their faces’ and added: “Excellent save by Smithies to deny Gudjohnsen, excellent strike from Butterfield to equalise and a well-taken goal by Wells to win the game. A great energetic performance by the team. Well done Town.

Chief, from Shelley, felt Town were much improved and it was an entertaining game.

“Myself and Colin Tinker agreed Hogg was Town’s star man with Scannell enterprising down the flank, while Butterfield capped a busy display with a tremendous strike.

“James Vaughan still not firing on all cylinders and Mark Hudson’s form dipped.

“Wells’ goal was a cool finish and will give the Bermudian more confidence. Let’s hope we can now show more consistency home and away!”

Debra, of HX5, noted: “Much better performance. Thought Hogg was immense.

Our midfield is a threat for any team in this league, just need to sharpen up in defence and up front.

“Wells took his goal well and proved what a good finisher he is. Apparently that’s the first time we have come from behind to win a game in over a year!

“Well done Town, everyone put a shift in.”

Richard, from Kirkburton, is not a Powell fan and says some of the selections “beggar belief”.

He added: “Powell needs to put Wells in his good books. He is a player that has class.

“The defence is still poor, no escaping that, even though we won.

“There is enough class in the team to be further up the league, but still need a leader at the back, central defender and a goalkeeper.”

Alison, from Thurstonland was delighted to see Wells get the winner and pointed out: “Great recovery from a dreadful start.

“Lots of good performances but I think Hogg and Scannell should be especially proud of their contributions in helping to secure a much-needed three points.”

SPH, of Almondbury, lauded the fightback after a “sloppy opening goal”.

“This was one of Town’s better performances because Bolton were on a good run and playing with confidence.

“I thought the midfield trio were outstanding with Sean Scannell again providing the width.

“A word for Murray Wallace, too, who if he could cut out the odd error can develop into a really classy centre half. His pace is a real asset.”
