Huddersfield Town fans will be keen to know Nick Pope has been a busy man at The Valley tonight.

The 23-year-old is Charlton Athletic’s goalkeeper and – following the 2-0 defeat at Cardiff in which Town failed to give home keeper David Marshall much to do – it’s important Chris Powell’s side produce some attacking threat in SE7.

Fans are concerned Town have scored just four times in seven outings so far in league and cup, failing to record a victory in what is their worst start to a campaign in 18 years.

Town can take encouragement, however, from their last trip to the capital when they were denied victory at Fulham only by an equaliser deep into stoppage time.

Since then, Town have lost goalkeeeper Joe Murphy, skipper Mark Hudson and striker James Vaughan to injury, while playmaker Jacob Butterfield has departed to Derby County and five loan signings have come in and worn Town colours.

Aston Villa keeper Jed Steer, Bournemouth centre-back Elliott Ward and Nottingham Forest attacker Jamie Paterson made debuts in the starting line-up at Cardiff, while Middlesbrough’s Mustapha Carayol and Wigan Athletic’s Emyr Huws appeared from the bench (the latter for his debut).

They will all be aiming to make a big positive impact against Guy Luzon’s Charlton, with more support to the frontmen being a ‘must have’ for most Town fans.

Powell has to find the right combination to provide help for Nahki Wells and his frontline colleagues so that Pope – who has conceded just seven times in eight matches in his breakthrough season at Championship level – doesn’t have to wear gloves to keep his hands warm.
