Huddersfield Town have revealed they are in "the final stages" of completing a move for Middlesbrough midfielder Jacob Butterfield, which will see Boro seal the signing of Adam Clayton for an undisclosed fee, understood to be £1.5m rising to £2m.

The future of Clayton has dragged on throughout the summer but a conclusion finally appears to be close with Town set to pocket the Bradford-born former Barnsley and Norwich City midfielder in exchange .

Butterfield was at the Proact Stadium as Town prepared to take on Chesterfield in the Capital One Cup, having travelled with the first-team squad.

A club statement read: "Huddersfield Town is in the final stages of completing the transfer of 24 year-old midfielder Jacob Butterfield, with Adam Clayton moving in the opposite direction for a seven figure undisclosed fee.

"The clubs hope to put the finishing touches to the move tomorrow."
