ALAN LEE believes Huddersfield Town’s tough training regime was a key factor behind their thumping win at Brentford.

Town maintained a strong second-half tempo in scorching temperatures in the capital, sealing victory with a blast of three goals in 10 minutes.

And big striker Lee, who made his fifth successive start and figured for 66 minutes before being replaced by Lee Novak, said: “It felt like we were in the Middle East rather than West London!

“It was hard to believe it was October, and even in pre-season, I don’t recall working in that kind of heat.

“It’s bound to be tough going in those conditions, but we dug in and got our rewards, so we’re delighted.”

Former Republic of Ireland star Lee, 33, continued: “We know from the various tests we take that we are fit, and that’s down to the management.

“They pay close attention to detail day by day and that prepares us for matches like this one.

“I think our fitness levels showed in the last 20, especially with the addition of some fresh legs in Lee Novak and Anton Robinson (for Scott Arfield).

“We got the vital goals, and we had the energy to outrun them and prevent any kind of fightback.”

On his fellow frontmen Novak and Jordan Rhodes, Lee said: “They’re both excellent players.

“Lee came on and made a real impact, scoring a lovely goal himself then setting up Jordan for his second, and game after game, our substitutes are making a real difference.

“It was great to have our skipper Peter Clarke back as well, and I thought he put in a really good performance.

“Brentford are a decent side and it wasn’t as straightforward a win as the scoreline maybe suggests.

“They made it hard for us, both in the first half and at the start of the second, but we responded to the challenge they set and in the end, we just had too much for them.”

l Town’s Under 18 team were 2-1 winners over Barnsley in their FA Premier Academy League clash at Canalside.
