David Wagner saw his Huddersfield Town side seal a 2-0 win at Bolton Wanderers, then laughed off the supporters song: “He’s better than Klopp.”

The head coach is a close friend and former colleague at Borussia Dortmund of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

While the Anfield giants have taken six points from nine over the festive period, Town have seven after following up a home Championship win over Preston North End and a draw at Queens Park Rangers with victory at the Macron Stadium in the first game of 2016.

Goals by Joe Lolley and Mustapha Carayol were seen by 2,221 Town fans.

“I think our fans were very euphoric and when you are like that, you say things you normally wouldn’t,” smiled the modest German.

“I appreciate the song, but I won’t be telling Jurgen about it!”
