Rumours linking Huddersfield Town with Stoke City’s Republic of Ireland star Jonathan Walters are well wide of the mark.

Sources close the Championship club have quashed suggestions of a planned £2.5m bid for the 32-year-old.

Former Ipswich Town man Walters has two years left on his contract, but it is claimed Premier League Stoke are willing to sell.

He was linked with Norwich City during the January transfer window.

Merseyside-born Walters, who is in the Republic’s initial Euro 2016 squad, started his career at Blackburn Rovers.

He has also played for Bolton Wanderers, Hull City, Wrexham and Chester.

Stoke paid Ipswich £2.75m for his services in 2010.

He has netted 58 times for the Potters.
