TOWN Ladies slumped to the bottom of the North-East Regional League Premier Division after going down 2-0 at home to Barnsley.

Jo Symington hit a post and Kate Mallin went close with a couple of free-kicks as Town made a bright start at Emley.

But defensive mix-ups were to prove costly as the South Yorkshire side struck in the 65th and 80th minutes.

Katie Barnes came close late on and this was a more positive display by Town, whose player of the match award went to right-back Chloe Newton Mann.

The first team don’t have a game this weekend, but the reserves head for Wortley on Sunday (2.00) looking to build on a 7-0 home win over West Leeds.

There were two each by Raegan Cartledge and Jordaine Allison plus goals from Olivia Holmes, Andrea Haigh and Emmie Kinnear.

Jodie Brinkworth was voted player of the match.

The Under 16s kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 home win over Pool.

Town started shakily as Pool piled on the pressure and went ahead through an early penalty given for handball.

But the home side hit back with goals in the 40th and 85th minutes, and go to Thornes on Sunday (2.00) seeking a follow-up win.

After last week’s postponement, the Under 14s begin their campaign against Wigton Moor United at Grange Moor on Sunday (10.30).

The newly-formed Under 12s have their opening match at Idle Juniors on Saturday (10.30).
